Other limits
- A pitcher who reaches 105 during an at-bat may finish that batter, then must leave the mound.
- No more than two pitching appearances in any three days in a row; leaving the mound and coming back in the same game counts as a second appearance.
- More than 45 pitches in the first game of a multi-game day means no pitching later that day.
- A pitching "day" runs from 8 a.m. to 8 a.m.
- A second mound visit to the same pitcher in one inning removes that pitcher from pitching for the rest of the game.
- Penalty: the pitcher is removed, and the head coach is ejected and suspended for another game.

Who plays Legion ball
American Legion Baseball is summer baseball for high school-age players, run by posts of The American Legion. Senior Legion is for players 19 and under, Junior Legion for 17 and under, set by birth year. For 2026, Senior Legion players were born on or after Jan 1, 2007, and Junior Legion players on or after Jan 1, 2009.
What’s different about Legion’s rule
- The pitching day runs 8 a.m. to 8 a.m., not midnight to midnight. A night game that runs late still counts toward the day it started.
- Two appearances in three days, at most, whatever the counts. Coming back to the mound later in the same game counts as a second appearance.
- Doubleheaders: more than 45 pitches in the first game means no pitching in a later game that day.
Legion’s table matches MLB and USA Baseball’s Pitch Smart guidelines for ages 17–18.
