Under GHSA rules, Georgia high school pitchers may throw up to 110 pitches a day (varsity). Up to 35 pitches needs no rest; 86 or more needs 3 calendar days of rest. The other tables and the extra limits are below.

1–24None: may pitch the next day

45–642 calendar days
65–903 calendar days

Other limits

  • The maximum (110 varsity, 90 sub-varsity) applies to a single game or cumulative over a two-day period.
  • A pitcher may not pitch more than two consecutive days regardless of pitch count; then at least one day of rest.
  • A pitcher at either level may finish the batter when the limit is reached, but must be replaced when that at-bat ends.
  • State tournament: no pitcher may exceed 120 pitches across a three-game series unless weather changes the schedule.
  • A pitch count monitor enters counts in the GHSA MIS system after each game; out-of-state games must be reported by the school.
  • Penalty: $250 fine to the school and a two-game suspension for the head coach; a repeat violation in the same season doubles both and the coach must meet the GHSA Executive Director before reinstatement.

The calculator above is set to Georgia. Enter the pitches thrown and the day, and it shows the rest required and the first day the pitcher can throw again.

How to read the rule

Rest is counted in calendar days, after the day the pitcher threw. On the Varsity table, a pitcher who throws 73 pitches on a Tuesday needs 2 calendar days of rest, so the first day they can pitch again is Friday. The most rest any Georgia table requires is 3 days.

More than one table

Georgia doesn’t use one table for everyone. Varsity: up to 110 pitches a day, 86+ pitches means 3 calendar days of rest. Sub-varsity: up to 90 pitches a day, 65+ pitches means 3 calendar days of rest. Pick the one that fits in the calculator; both are printed below it.

Where the rule comes from

These numbers are from the association’s own document: GHSA Baseball Pitch Count Policy, read as the GHSA Pitch Count Policy, in effect since 2017. Associations can change their rules between seasons, so if the season is about to start, check the association’s current baseball manual too. Your league or tournament may also set stricter limits than the state.

Keeping the count is usually the coaches’ job, often with both teams’ counts compared after the game. The pitch count log has a line for every pitcher and game.
