- By Julien Levadoux
Under OSSAA rules, Oklahoma high school pitchers may throw up to 120 pitches a day. Up to 35 pitches needs no rest; 101 or more needs 4 calendar days of rest. The extra limits are below.
The OSSAA rest table
All levels · 120 pitches a day at most
| Pitches in a day | Rest before pitching again |
|---|---|
| 1–35 | None: may pitch the next day |
| 36–50 | 1 calendar day |
| 51–75 | 2 calendar days |
| 76–100 | 3 calendar days |
| 101–120 | 4 calendar days |
Other limits
- No pitcher may begin a new hitter after reaching 120 pitches that day (so the batter in progress may be finished).
- A pitcher who throws more than 75 pitches in the first game of a day may not pitch in any later game that day.
- Each rest day runs from daylight to daylight starting the morning after the game; the game's start time does not matter.
- The pitch count includes all pitches (legal and illegal) thrown to batters.
- The same limits apply at every level, in the regular season, tournaments and playoffs.
- Pitch counts must be reported on the OSSAA Rankings site within 24 hours; first miss brings a written notice, later misses a suspension of at least one contest.
- Playoffs: the host school names a Designated Pitch Count Recorder whose record is final.
- Using an ineligible pitcher means a forfeit (declared only by the OSSAA) and a one-game suspension for the head coach.
- Oklahoma plays both fall and spring baseball; the same pitching rule applies to both.

The calculator above is set to Oklahoma. Enter the pitches thrown and the day, and it shows the rest required and the first day the pitcher can throw again.
How to read the rule
Rest is counted in calendar days, after the day the pitcher threw. A pitcher who throws 88 pitches on a Tuesday needs 3 calendar days of rest, so the first day they can pitch again is Saturday. The most rest any Oklahoma table requires is 4 days.
Where the rule comes from
These numbers are from the association’s own document: OSSAA Baseball Manual 2026-27, Pitching, read as the OSSAA Baseball Manual 2026-27. Associations can change their rules between seasons, so if the season is about to start, check the association’s current baseball manual too. Your league or tournament may also set stricter limits than the state.
Keeping the count is usually the coaches’ job, often with both teams’ counts compared after the game. The pitch count log has a line for every pitcher and game.
